چکیده

The paper presents our experiences with the phone transi tion acoustical models The phone transition models were compared to the traditional context dependent phone models We put special atten tion on the speech signal segmentation analysis to provide a better in sight into certain segmentation e ects when using the di erent acoustical models Experiments with the HMM based models were performed using the HTK toolkit which was extended to provide proper state parameter tying for the phone transition models All the model parameters were estimated on the GOPOLIS speech database The annotation confusions concerning two phone speech units are also discussed

Acoustical modelling of phone transitions: biphones and diphones - what are the differences?

The paper presents our experiences with the phone transition acoustical models. The phone transition models were compared to the traditional context dependent phone models. We put special attention on the speech signal segmentation analysis to provide a better insight into certain segmentation e ects when using the di erent acoustical models. Experiments with the HMM-based models were performed...

Unsupervised speech segmentation: an analysis of the hypothesized phone boundaries.

Despite using different algorithms, most unsupervised automatic phone segmentation methods achieve similar performance in terms of percentage correct boundary detection. Nevertheless, unsupervised segmentation algorithms are not able to perfectly reproduce manually obtained reference transcriptions. This paper investigates fundamental problems for unsupervised segmentation algorithms by compari...

Towards phone segmentation for concatenative speech synthesis

We present a new approach to solve the problem of phone segmentation when preparing databases for concatenative Text-to-Speech synthesis. First, we describe the problem and review the state of the art. Then we present some already existing techniques to perform this segmentation and present our approach based on a Regression Tree to perform Boundary Specific Correction of the HMM segmentation. ...

Incorporating acoustical modelling of phone transitions in an hybrid ANN/HMM speech recognizer

Speech recognition based on connectionist approaches is one of the most successful alternatives to widespread Gaussian systems. One of the main claims against hybrid recognizers is the increased complexity for context-dependent phone modelling, which is a key aspect in medium to large size vocabulary tasks. In this paper, a baseline hybrid system based on monophone recognition units is improved...

An Introduction to Speech Sciences (Acoustic Analysis of Speech)

Speech sciences deal with the acoustical characteristics of speech by means of sophisticated soft wares as well as hard wares. Although, a speech science is a well known science in the developed countries, especially the western societies, however, it has been remained almost unknown in Iran, though, in recent years a group of scholars have been involved in this branch of science. The applicati...
